What is fate?
Fate started as a visual light novel, an interactive computer game where players can change the story based on their choices. The original story went in three different directions, later adapted into three different anime series. In 2005, another game called Hollow ataraxia released.
As part of the Fate watch, many spin-offs novel manga, anime, and other works have been released in different universes and times. The Holy Grail war, a battle between seven Masters and the seven Servants they summon, connects all of the Fate anime series. Even though their names are different, each Servant is based on a legendary hero from the past, like Hercules, William Shakespeare, and others.
Since it has been going on for a long time, it might be hard to find time to watch all of the Fate watch order chart anime episodes right now. But there are some ways to watch everything in the correct order. There is a way to watch the different timelines of the Fate series in order, based on when the books came out.
But if you don’t want to enter the Fate universe, we have an order for you to follow while you watch the Fate series. The Holy Grail wars are the story’s center, and the Fate world starts with the fifth Holy Grail war. There are, of course, some spin-offs and movies. As we go through the article, we will explain everything!
In what order should I watch Fate Watch?
The season features two Fate anime. Even if many of you are Fate fans, I’m sure some of you are new to the series and are wondering what it’s about. I’ll briefly give fate babylonia anime and its TV anime series. Why is the order of fate series good?
No matter what, it’s a battle between people who fight for their values. Itfeatures hard to keep going. Each master who struggles for their wish. Shirou Emiya is the primary protagonist of Fate/stay night. He’s a decent child who wishes to save a lot of people.
The masters who want to defeat the others have intense wishes that make them risk their lives in battle. Shirou’s life is ruined by others’ wishes and difficulties. The story “and they lived happily ever after” doesn’t end for them. Even if the want is selfish or harmful, their battle faith is something to watch for.
Interesting battle scenes. Battle weapons are called Noble Phantasms, which are written with the kanji meaning “Treasures.” Every servant has a different weapon, swords or spears. The way the camera tracks the action-packed battle lets the audience feel like they’re fighting along with the characters. Watch the Master-Servant relationship. It’s interesting to see how use-and-be-used connections change over time.
Gen Urobuchi is important to fate watch. He wrote Fate/Zero before Fate/stay night. Also, anime was adapted. Gen Urobuchi is notable for various works, including Puella Magi Madoka Magica and PSYCHO-PASS. I won’t give the series, but if you’ve read them, you’ll know what he contributes to the Fate universe.
A Fierce Battle over the Holy Grail
The Holy Grail War connects almost all the works in the fate watch order. The Holy Grail is an all-powerful existence that can make any wish come true. It is the reason for the war. Most of the time, each of The Holy Grail Wars is about seven Masters chosen by the Holy Grail and the seven Servants they summon. The Heroic Spirit of each Servant is based on an actual person from history or legend, like King Arthur, Hercules, or William Shakespeare. However, they are usually called by the name of their class.
There are seven types of Servants: Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker. One Servant works for one Master, and the battle keeps going. Most of the works in the Fate series are about these wars, so there is a lot of conflict and bloodshed in them.
Series Off Pin
Some series try out different kinds of stories. For example, the animation studio Silver Link made the following short stories:
- TV anime Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya (2013)
- TV anime Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! (2014)
- TV anime Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! (2015)
- TV anime Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! (2016)
- Movie Fate/kaleid liner Oath under Snow by Prisma Illya (2017)
Based on a manga series by Hiroshi Hiyama. It is a spin-off of the magical girl genre in an alternate universe. Also, the following anime is shown once a month:
Web anime today’s Menu for Emiya Family
Based on a slice-of-life cooking manga about the Fate/stay Night characters. TAa wrote the manga, and Makoto Tadano was in charge of the recipes. The series’s animation is done by ufotable.
This one is a bit different from the others in the series because it has nothing to do with the Holy Grail War. We follow as Shirou, Saber, and other Fate/Stay Night characters eat home-cooked meals with each other. In each episode, Shirou explains a different recipe that is easy to understand. Even if you don’t know anything about Fate, watching the anime is still fun if you’re interested in Japanese cooking.
Today’s Menu for Emiya Family is not the first anime in the Fate series that isn’t very serious. In 2011 and 2012, OVAs of the anime Carnival Phantasm came out. Carnival Phantasm has characters from Fate/Stay Night and other Type-Moon franchises, such as Tsukihime, a visual novel that came out before Fate/Stay Night. However, the focus is much more on comedy and slapstick. But I’d say this is more for people who already like the Type-Moon characters than those who have never seen them before.
How to Watch the Fate Anime Series in the Best Order
With multiple storylines and a confusing order of events, this anime series may seem like a train wreck to newcomers to the Fate world. However, this has made it so popular and fun on its own.
Since it first came out, it has been made into so many different versions that even the most dedicated anime fan may get confused and lose track of the main plot. Because of this, it makes sense to ask about the right order to watch it.
Here is a list of the Fate anime series in order of when they came out:
- Fate/Stay Night is a video game (2006)
- Unlimited Blade Works is a part of Fate/Stay Night (2010)
- Fate/Zero (2011)
- Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA (2013)

- Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia (2019)

Now that you know what order to watch Fate anime in, I’ll explain why this is the best way to watch Fate anime in the rest of the article. Let’s get started!
Fate Series in Order
1. Fate/Stay Night (2006)
There is a battle going on between masters and slaves over who gets to keep the Holy Grail. It is the duty of each master to summon one servant who will be sent to kill the other servants, either by fighting them or killing their master. When only one master or servant is left, that person gets the Holy Grail, which can be used to make any wish they want.
The battle is about Shirou Emiya, a hardworking and honest teenager who doesn’t want to take part in the Fifth Holy Grail War, a tournament where people fight with magic and legendary heroes for a chance to have their wishes come true. Shirou was adopted as a child after he was left without a family and was the only person to survive a terrible fire in Fuyuki City.
He was raised by a retired magician, Kiritsugu Emiya, who would die years later. His duty to the dead person and how his father saved him gave him a great desire for justice and peace. So, he works hard to improve his body and small magic skills so that he can one day help others in a big way, even though his kindness is often taken advantage of at this level.
When he saw two terrifyingly strong creatures fighting with swords and spears at his school one night, he was attacked because witnesses who see the Holy Grail War are usually killed. Shirou is about to be killed when Saber comes and saves him. Lancer, a spear-wielding warrior, follows him home and hits him so hard that he barely gets away.
Saber was made to be like a famous historical figure, in her case Arturia Pendragon, in order to help soldiers in the War. Shirou’s entry into the Holy Grail War as a Master is made official by her ostensibly accidental summoning and the appearance of the markings on his palm.
2. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2010)
On the tenth anniversary of the great fire in Fuyuki City, Rin Tohsaka does the summoning ritual and calls Archer. Archer goes straight after Lancer, but Shirou Emiya sees them fight. Shirou runs away, but Lancer catches him and kills him. Rin uses her necklace to bring Shirou back to life, but Lancer attacks him, so Shirou calls for Saber, who chases Lancer away.
Kirei Kotomine tells Shirou in a chapel about the Holy Grail War, and Shirou decides to join the fight. Shirou asks Rin to join his side, but Illyasviel von Einzbern and Berserker stop him. The battle ends when Archer sets off a big explosion. Illya goes away, and Shirou dies from his injuries.
The next day, Shirou feels strange when he goes to school, so he meets up with Rin to find out what’s going on. Shinji Matou, her master, and Rider, who is her master, come across them. Shinji runs away from school while Rin saves Shirou. Shirou calls on Saber, and the two see Shinji hiding in a corner of the classroom with a defeated Rider who then vanishes. Shinji says that the crime was done by someone else, and he gets away again. Kotomine suggests to Shinji later that he get a new servant.
That night, Shirou sleepwalks to the Ryuudou Temple, where Caster tries to steal his command spells. Saber chases Assassin, but Assassin catches him, and Shirou is rescued by Archer, who then fights and beats Caster to save her life. Shirou and Archer get into a fight, and Archer tells Shirou that he can’t save everyone.
Archer doesn’t care about him and turns after Shirou until Saber saves him. Caster waits for Rin, Shirou, and Saber as they go home and stabs Saber with Rule Breaker, a weapon that breaks servant contracts. Caster tells Saber to kill Rin and Shirou, but Saber refuses and then vanishes with Caster. Rin, Archer, and Caster’s master, Souichirou Kuzuki, quickly face Caster and her, but Archer turns against Rin. Before Archer can ask Caster to protect him, Shirou steps in. Since they can’t win, they decide to ask Illya for help.
3. Fate/Zero (2011)
Taking place ten years prior to Fate/stay night, the anime tells the story of the Fourth Holy Grail War, a secret magical tournament held in Fuyuki City, Japan. Seven magicians called Masters call upon Servants, who are reincarnations of legendary souls and heroes from all time, to fight in a deadly battle royale for the Holy Grail, a magical, legendary chalice made of gold.
It has new characters, younger versions of Fate/stay night characters, and their parents and other family members. Kiritsugu Emiya, who is the main character of Fate/Zero and the foster father of Shirou Emiya, who is the main character of Fate/stay night, is a cruel mage killer who enters the tournament on behalf of the Einzberns, the family of his wife.
War for the Holy Grail: Seven magicians call upon seven Heroic Spirits to fight for the “Holy Grail” in this competition. They want to find out how the “Holy Grail” got its magical powers. The fourth fight starts in the fight that has been put off three times.
A magician was always by himself and couldn’t figure out why he was there. His real name was Kirei Kotomine. Kirei didn’t understand where fate watch order was taking him and often wondered why someone like him was granted the Command Seals. Kirei, however, ran into an enemy. That individual is Kiritsugu Emiya. A ruthless mage who killed people and was hired assassin who worked for the Einzberns, his wife’s family. He was looking for the Holy Grail miracle on their behalf.
4. Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA (2013)
Illyasviel von Einzbern is like any other Japanese girl in school. Her parents are always away, and she lives with her overachieving older brother Shirou Emiya and two maids. In her wildest dreams, she uses magic to make her love dreams with Shirou come true. Rin Tohsaka and Luviagelita Edelfelt, two Magi who hate each other, are sent to Japan by Zelretch the Wizard Marshall, Master of Parallel Worlds, to enter the mysterious Class Cards and clean up their mess. Rin and Luviagelita are rivals who hate each other.
When one of the Kaleidosticks, Magical Ruby, gets tired of Illya and Rin’s constant fighting, she notices Illya’s short fantasy of magic and leaves Rin for Illya, tricking her into becoming a magical girl. Rin is now trying to force Illya to get the dangerous Class Cards for her. Illya’s secrets may be more dangerous, which is why Ruby may have been drawn to her without knowing it. After a series of fights, Illya and Miyu got all the Cards and became friends. Rin and Luvia, on Zelretch’s orders, stayed in Japan. Kuro, a dark-skinned woman who looks a lot like Illya, makes their lives harder when she tries to kill Illya.
When Illya’s mother, Irisviel, shows up, she tells them that Kuro was supposed to be the Holy Grail in the Holy Grail War, but she locked him away when the war was stopped so that Illya could have a normal life. Kuro is accepted into the Einzbern family after Illya gives her the mana she needs to maintain in her physical form.
Bazett Fraga McRemitz attacks the group soon after. He was the one who got the Class Cards in the first place. When Rin reveals the existence of an eighth Class Card, a truce is made. Gilgamesh, the seventh Class Card, faces off against the group. He tells them that Miyu is from a parallel universe where she was born as a Holy Grail before being absorbed. Illya puts the Ruby and Sapphire Kaleidosticks together to make the Kaleido Liner Zwei. This gives her the power to fight Gilgamesh and save Miyu.
5. Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel (2017)
Shirou Emiya is a young wizard who goes to the Homurahara Academy in Fuyuki City. After cleaning his school’s Archery Dojo, he sees a fight between superhuman beings and gets involved in the Holy Grail War, a ritual in which magicians called Masters fight with their Servants to win the Holy Grail.
Shirou joins the fight to stop a bad guy from getting the Grail and to protect innocent people, but things go wrong when a mysterious person called “Shadow” starts killing people randomly in Fuyuki.
Shirou Emiya is a new magician pulled into the Fifth Holy Grail War. This is a battle to the death between seven other mages and their famous familiars, called Servants. As long as Shirou wins the Holy Grail Conflict, he will save the world and be a hero of justice. He also wants to rescue his friend Sakura Matou from the war and her violent brother, Shinji Matou, with the assistance of his servant, Saber, and his classmate, Rin Tohsaka. During the battle, strange events happen, and Sakura gets sick with a disease no one knows about.
Shirou can’t stop fighting in the Holy Grail War, even though he has already lost the war and Saber. During the Holy Grail War, when Sakura is revealed to be a Master, Shirou is determined to keep her safe. Shirou and Rin are determined to end the Holy Grail War, even though Sakura’s strange illness is killing her and the mysterious shadow is still killing people.
Shirou gives up his body and mind to save Sakura by stopping the poisoned Holy Grail. He does this by facing his now-corrupted Servant Saber. Kirei Kotomine, the astray priest who has turned against Shirou and Rin, Illyasviel von Einzbern, Sakura’s Servant Rider, and Kirei Kotomine team up to stop the corrupted Grail before it destroys the world.
6. The Book of Fate (2017)
Fate/Apocrypha has a different universe than Fate/stay night. Third Holy Grail War: Darnic Prestone Yggdmillennia takes the Greater Grail to Romania. The Yggdmillennia clan declares war on the Mage’s Association 60 years later, pitting two teams of Servants against each other. Black and Red factions represent Yggdmillennia and the Mage’s Association.
Kairi Shishigou, a Clock Tower-hired necromancer, summons Mordred. Shishigou doesn’t follow Shirou Kotomine since he doesn’t trust him. Shirou and his Servant, Semiramis, beat the other masters of Red by seizing their command spells, which enabled them control their Servants: Karna, Atalanta, Achilles, William Shakespeare, and Spartacus.

Homunculi give Yggdmillennia and the Servants mana. Astolfo aids a “homunculus” Siegfried offers the infant his heart when the homunculus is murdered while escaping. Jeanne becomes Sieg’s hermit. During the fight to release the homunculi, Sieg visits Trifas.
During the Black-Red conflict, the Greater Grail is brought to Hanging Gardens. Spartacus and Frankenstein’s monster die in the battle against Mordred. 8. Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia (2019)
After winning the Camelot Singularity, Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight are sent to the last Singularity. In Ancient Mesopotamia, B.C. 2655, they went on a quest to ensure that people would continue to live. When they get to Uruk, the Babylonian metropolis ruled by King Gilgamesh, they hear about the three goddesses that threaten the city. Now, Ritsuka and Mash will have to work together to stop the three Goddesses from working together and stop the bloodthirsty monsters threatening humanity’s future.
King Solomon the Mage has set fire to the very foundations of mankind. Chaldea, a secret group of magicians who want to save humanity’s future, said that humanity would end in 2015. So, Effort Grand Order, the plan to fix the Singularities in history caused by Holy Grails that were scattered across time and space, began.
Ritsuka Fujimaru, Chaldea’s last master, and his demi-servant Mash Kyrielight have used the Rayshift time travel technology to go to and fix six Singularities. They are about to go on their most dangerous trip yet: to civilization in the Age of Gods, in Mesopotamia in 2655 B.C. Uruk, a fortress city that serves as the frontline in the war against the monsters, is humanity’s last stand in a world of chaos and horror. 9. Fate/Grand Order (Anime Movie) (2020)
2015 is the last year that magic was the most critical age. Caldea is an organization that was set up to keep an eye on both the magical and scientific worlds and stop the end of humanity. Humanity is promised at least another hundred years until Caldea’s future kingdom vanishes into thin air.
Based on what happened in the Japanese city of Fuyuki in 2004, Caldea is now sure that humanity will end after 2017. The group sends out a “Grand Order” for a “Holy Grail Expedition” with the mission of finding and possibly destroying the singularity that caused the end of humanity.
In the wake of the Singularity crisis many groups, like the United Nations and the Mages Association are very suspicious of Chaldea because they were involved in rayshifting at different times. The group thought there might be a new singularity different from the others. Ritsuka is once again given the job of managing Singularity Subspecies and finding out the deeper secrets behind their existence.
After that, Goredolf Musik would be in charge of Chaldea. Goredolf turned out to be a scapegoat in a hostile takeover by a mysterious group and an unknown being revealed as the Foreign God. Their goal was to destroy Chaldea and modern human history, bringing the world back to the Age of Gods. Ritsuka, Mash, and the other Chaldeans left on the Shadow Border, a ship that can move on its own.
To save humanity, the gang now goes to “Lostbelts,” which are alternate versions of human history that are very different from the main human timeline and were “pruned away” from the main timeline because they were thought to be dead ends.
